The manuscript “Information of Camamu Lands for Our Reverend Father General” is a document belonging to the Archivum Romanum Societatis Iesu (ARSI) collection housed in Vatican Library in Rome. It was written in Spanish in the year 1586. The author was a priest of the Jesus Society who was somehow connected to the former College of Bahia. The document examines the legal quality of possession and the dominion of the Camamu sesmaria, donated to the Company of Jesus by Mem de Sá, in light of the conflicts raised by the grantee of the Captaincy of Ilhéus, Francisco Giraldes. It explains with clarity and a certain novelty the legal interpretation around the sesmaria system.
