Abstract

The subject of this article is Antônio Carlos Ribeiro de Andrada, brother of the Patriach of the Independence of Brazil, José Bonifácio de Andrada e Silva.  Antônio Carlos played an essential role in the Revolutioin of Pernambuco, in 1817, as well as in the Constitucional Assemblies of Lisbon, in 1821, and of Brazil, in 1823. In these three occasions, he developed a constitucional legacy which influenced the constitutionalisms of both sides of the Atlantic.
