Critiques of Prado ́s interpretive model and the recent explanations of colonial structures

The main aim of the paper is to carry out a vertical analysis of the chapter Meaning of Colonization, written by Caio Prado Júnior (2011) in order to explain the Formation of Contemporary Brazil, in contrast to critiques and additions linked to his interpretation. We present the main facts that supported his narrative, analyse the essays written by Costa (2010) and Souza (2010), and list some viewpoints worthy of reconsideration, in light of Novais´review. (1969). Next, we analyse the work of Luiz Felipe de Alencastro (2001) and point out the similarities between both authors, highlighting the subsequent possibilities of formulating new analytical keys for the colonial period. The purpose is to emphasize the importance of considering the colonial structures unveiled since Caio Prado Júnior for the construction of interpretive models about the period, which remain current in the face of new paradigms.
