Carlos Miguel Delgado de Carvalho was an important Brazilian scholar and author of a vast work in the fields of geography, sociology and history. His collection, housed in the the Brazilian Historical and Geographic Institute (IHGB), offers multiple possibilities for research in the history of school subjects and education in Brazil. The article addresses some of these subjects and includes the transcription of two documents, namely “Notes on Social Studies” and “Notes on Social Studies Programs” written by the educator in the late 1960s. These unpublished notes show Delgado de Carvalho’s conceptions for teaching history, geography and social studies. Their reading makes it possible to trace the changes and continuities in his thinking.
