Abstract

Following the idea of matrilineal generational slavery, the article seeks to understand the forms of conceptual constitution and the difficulties that the principle of partus sequitur ventrem encountered in regions with colonial slavery. We examine how the English, French, Spanish and Portuguese slavery systems were applied in the American continent and follow them up in the transformation and adaptation processes proper to the development of the technique of passing on slavery to children in America. We seek to show that the process faced difficulties which were perceived and overcome over time, contributing to the definitive abolition of the domination and ownership over the enslaved womb.
